Finding accommodation in Germany

Germany's rental market is competitive and registration (Anmeldung) needs a landlord confirmation. A furnished mid-term flat is the pragmatic first step for most newcomers.

Registration-ready contracts

You need a landlord who will sign the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung. Not every short-let does this — check before you book.

Temporary vs. long-term

Book a furnished mid-term flat before arrival, then search for an unfurnished long-term flat once you have an address, a bank account and a Schufa record.

Avoiding scams

Never pay a deposit before a viewing or a verifiable contract. 'Landlord abroad, pay by transfer' is the classic scam.
