EU Blue Card salary thresholds rise for 2026

From 1 January 2026 the standard Blue Card salary is €50,700 and the reduced threshold (shortage occupations, new graduates, IT specialists) is €45,934.20 — roughly 5% higher than 2025, tracking the pension contribution ceiling.
What changed
The thresholds are recalculated yearly from the general pension insurance contribution ceiling, which rose to €101,400/year in 2026. Standard = 50% of the ceiling; reduced = 45.3%.

What to do
If you are negotiating a 2026 contract, make sure the gross salary clears the threshold that applies to you. Contractually guaranteed bonuses count. Just below? Consider the § 18b skilled-worker permit instead.
